Dogs' Greatest Fears: What Owners Should Avoid!
1. Hugging Your Dog
When we love something, we often hold it close to express our affection. However, in the world of dogs, being hugged can mean being dominated, which is something they find quite offputting.
2. Denying Dogs the Chance to Sniff and Explore
During walks, dogs rely heavily on their noses to explore the world, much like humans use their eyes. Their sense of smell is their gateway to understanding the new world around them. Therefore, it's important to give them ample time to sniff and explore during walks. Don't cruelly take away this right from them.
3. Touching a Dog's Face or Slapping Its Head
A dog will only allow you to touch its face or head if it recognizes you as the alpha. Strangers who try to touch a dog's face will often find the dog instinctively backing away. So, when petting a dog, it's more appropriate to gently stroke its back or rear end, rather than slapping it. If you want to reward your dog for good behavior, avoid patting its face; instead, gently touch the area near the base of its tail.
4. Pulling on the Leash Too Tightly
Dogs are adept at sensing their owner's body language, and they can tell how tense you are by the tightness of the leash. By keeping the leash loose, you communicate to your dog that you are calm and in control. This helps your dog feel relaxed and at ease.
5. Mocking a Dog
When passing by a dog, avoid imitating dog sounds; don't hide behind doors or windows to wave or speak to a barking dog; and never pull on a dog's tail. Don't take delight in doing things that could cause a dog distress. Such actions can lead to severe consequences, so always treat our furry friends with respect and kindness.
