Signs of Overexertion in Dogs: Recognize the Symptoms
【Thirsty】
Dogs often feel thirsty after a bout of exercise, which is quite normal. However, if they continue to drink excessively and still feel parched, and if they urinate frequently, these are not typical signs and may indicate overexertion.
【Restless and Irritable】
Following a brief but intense period of physical activity, some dogs may exhibit symptoms of confusion, such as ignoring commands or frantically jumping around, which can be quite unsettling.
【Abnormal Appetite】
After vigorous exercise, it's common for dogs to temporarily lose their appetite. Once they've had some rest, their hunger usually returns, which is perfectly normal. Yet, some dogs may experience prolonged aversion to food following heavy exercise, and in rare cases, they might suddenly develop an insatiable appetite that persists. Both of these scenarios are indicative of overexertion. Dogs that are overly tired after exercise may appear listless, have difficulty focusing, and seem to lack energy. In some cases, they may not regain their strength for several days and may also suffer from discomfort, such as bloating.
【Joint Pain】
Overexertion can lead to pain in the joints or around them, as well as joint dysfunction.
Therefore, when taking your dog for a workout, it's crucial to keep a close eye on their behavior. Should you notice any signs of overexertion, such as those mentioned above, be sure to give your furry friend a welldeserved break immediately.
