1. The Changing of Seasons

As the climate shifts from cold to warm, cats experience hormonal changes within their bodies, leading to the shedding of their thick fur and the growth of new hair. This process can be likened to shedding winter attire for summer wear.

However, it's impossible to prevent shedding entirely. The best approach is to engage in regular grooming practices, such as frequent baths, to help manage the situation.

2. Nutritional Deficiencies

Beyond seasonal changes, a common reason for increased shedding in cats is malnutrition. This can often be attributed to a lack of protein or insufficient vitamin intake.

Many cat owners mistakenly feed their pets human food, which can lead to inadequate protein intake and subsequent shedding. In severe cases, cats may even experience patchy skin peeling.

In such instances, it's advisable to switch to a balanced cat food diet and consider increasing the proportion of fish in their meals.

3. Health Concerns

Cats are prone to illness, and if you notice your feline companion showing signs of poor spirits, loss of appetite, or excessive shedding, it might be a sign of illness. It's crucial to consult a veterinarian for professional advice.

For cleaning furniture, a brush with soft bristles, similar to those used for cleaning suits, can be effective. You can attach the bristles to a glove and gently stroke your cat's fur, not only removing loose hair but also strengthening the bond between you and your pet.

4. Grooming Your Cat Regularly

Don't underestimate the importance of grooming your cat. If you make it a daily habit, your cat will find it comforting and may even look forward to this bonding time. It also serves as a form of massage, promotes blood circulation, and enhances skin health—all of which are key to reducing shedding.

5. Moderate Bathing

Some cat owners bathe their pets almost daily, while others may skip baths entirely for a year. Both extremes are incorrect!

Proper bathing guidelines:

In summer, bathe your cat every 5 to 7 days, and in winter, every 7 to 10 days. However, if you notice shedding, avoid the temptation to bathe your cat more frequently. Overbathing can damage the cat's skin, leading to more severe shedding and potentially making the skin more susceptible to skin diseases.
