Symptoms & Treatments for Dog Eczema: A Comprehensive G
Dog eczema is a condition characterized by dampness, heat, and wind pathogens accumulating in the skin, leading to red papules and an itchy, restless sensation. This condition commonly affects areas such as under the ears, the buttocks, the inner sides of the limbs, and the scrotum in male dogs. The affected skin may appear dotted with red papules and blisters filled with fluid, which later crust over. The dog may experience intense itching and, in severe cases, the skin can become necrotic over a large area.
Treatment Options:
1. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Treatment: Administer an enhanced version of the Gancao Xiaoxin Decoction internally, combined with an external wash using TCM herbs. The internal medicine recipe includes 20g of licorice root, 15g of Scutellaria baicalensis, 30g of Codonopsis pilosula, 15g of dried ginger, 10g of Coptis chinensis, 10 dates, 12g of Pinellia ternata, 20g of Atractylodes macrocephala, and 20g of Inula japonica. Boil the herbs to extract the liquid, which should be divided into two doses and administered in the morning and evening. For the external wash, use 12g of raw licorice root and 12g of Sophora flavescens, boiled to extract the liquid for bathing the affected area twice a day. Before bathing, wash the affected area with warm water to remove crusts. To prevent vomiting after medication, inject 410ml of Aemular into the muscle 15 minutes before administering the medicine.
2. Another TCM recipe, the Sanmiao Powder, with added herbs: 20g of Phellodendron amurense, 15g of Atractylodes macrocephala, and 15g of Achyranthes bidentata. For those with a pronounced dampness, add 20g of Alisma orientale; for those with red,涩, and frequent urination, add 10g of Cinnamomum cassia and 10g of Polygonum aviculare; for those with constipation, add 15g of Rhei; and for those with reduced appetite, add 12g of Massa medicata. Boil the herbs in 500ml of water until it reduces to 300400ml, strain the mixture, and divide it into two portions. One portion should be taken warm, and the other can be used for a warm compress on the affected area. Apply both internally and externally once a day for three consecutive days.
3. Herbal Treatment: Use equal amounts of Herba Epimedii, roots of Chenopodium album, and oil tea seed cake. Boil the first two ingredients for 1015 minutes, then add the oil tea seed cake powder, stir well, and cook for another 5 minutes. Apply the warm herbal liquid to soak or wet compress the affected skin twice a day. If the skin is ulcerated, first soak the area with the herbal liquid and then sprinkle an equal mixture of ground vinegar and vinegar paste. Typically, this treatment takes 23 days, but can extend to 45 days for full recovery.
4. Combination of Various Herbs: An equal amount of Stemona root, Sida acuta, Sophora flavescens, Phellodendron amurense, Cnidium monnieri, and Zanthoxylum bungeanum. Boil the herbs to create a solution containing 1g of crude drug per milliliter, and apply it to the affected area.
