Part 1: Types of Parasites on Cats and How to Identify Them

1. Fleas. If you notice your cat frequently scratching itself and seems unusually irritable, examine its fur at the roots. Look for tiny black spots. If your cat has fleas, these spots will turn red when submerged in water. Fleas not only cause itching but can lead to anemia if left untreated. Be cautious when dealing with fleas; do not squash them with your bare hands, as the contents can splash and potentially lead to tapeworm infection.

2. Lice. Lice are slowermoving than fleas and harder to remove from the skin. They are typically found in shades of pink and white. Lice are a major contributor to skin inflammation, hair loss, and ringworm in cats.

3. Ticks. While ticks are commonly found on dogs, they can also infest cats. If you find a tick, do not attempt to pull it off with your fingers. The tick's mouthparts can remain in the cat's skin, causing harm.

4. Mites. Everyone is familiar with mites, as we also take steps to eliminate them in our daily lives. There are two types of mites that can affect cats: scabies mites and ear mites. Scabies mites live in the cat's body, often on the face and neck, causing severe itching, hair loss, red skin, and yellow scabs. In severe cases, they can lead to cracked skin and abscesses. Ear mites primarily affect the cat's ears, causing intense itching and scratching, with oil buildup and a foul odor. In extreme cases, they can lead to otitis media or even hematoma.

The above are common parasites found in kittens. You can identify them based on these symptoms.

Part 2: Parasite Prevention Measures

1. Regularly deworm your cat internally and externally. This is the most effective way to prevent your cat from getting parasites. Generally, kittens should be dewormed once a month, adult cats should be dewormed externally once a month and internally every three months.

2. Keep your cat's environment clean and hygienic. Regularly clean and scoop the litter box, and make sure to bathe and clean your cat's ears frequently.

3. Feed your cat a balanced diet with added vitamins to boost its immune system.
