Cat Food Recipe: Chicken Jerky;
Preparation Method: Baked;
Difficulty Level: Easy;
Preparation Time: More than 6 hours;
Special Equipment: Dehydrator;
Main Ingredient: Chicken Breast;
Supplementary Ingredients: None;
Age Appropriate: Suitable for cats over 3 months old;
Step 1: Gather Ingredients
Prepare two raw chicken breasts for this recipe.
Step 2: Cut into Strips
Cut the chicken breast into strips. There are several ways to cut, each with its own benefits:
① Narrow slices for better taste, ideal for firsttime eaters;
② Wide slices that can keep your cat occupied for 10 minutes or more, perfect for a playful snack;
③ Mediumwidth, thick slices for excellent dental benefits. If your cat has yellow teeth, tartar, or bad breath, this is the recommended choice;
Tips:
The concept of 'thin' refers to chicken slices that are less than 3mm thick before drying, which will shrink to about 1mm.
The concept of 'thick' refers to chicken slices that are about 5mm thick before drying, which will reduce to 23mm.
Step 3: Place in the Dehydrator
Place the cut chicken strips on the dehydrator tray, leaving some space between them. Remember, 500g of raw chicken breast will yield approximately 100g of chicken jerky.
Step 4: Storage
Once the chicken strips are fully dried, store them in an airtight container or bag. The shelf life is generally over 3 months, but it can vary depending on the amount of moisture retained during the drying process. More moisture means a shorter shelf life. Freshly dried chicken jerky should have a savory aroma and can be easily distinguished from spoiled jerky by sight and smell.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Cats often prefer to play with their food first. You can feed the jerky directly or crumble it to mix with their kibble.
