Hello everyone, welcome to Oxygen Pet Doctor~

With summer in full swing, it's peak season for canine skin diseases. Some pet owners are becoming desperate, resorting to using hydrocortisone cream to treat their dogs' skin issues.

But can hydrocortisone really be used for treating your dog's skin problems? The answer is yes. The main ingredient in hydrocortisone is diclofenac sodium, a type of steroid medication. It's primarily used for allergies, dermatitis, and offers quick relief from itching.

However, it should not be used longterm!

Dog skin diseases can be quite varied, generally categorized into fungal, bacterial, miterelated, and dermatitis types. When treating your dog's skin issues, it's crucial to use the right medication for the condition. This approach ensures quicker healing and minimizes skin damage.

For instance, if your dog has a fungal infection (canine ringworm), the best course of action is to opt for antifungal topical sprays or ointments, such as DaShiNing (ketokonazole ointment), PiPuTe (terbinafine hydrochloride spray), or clotrimazole ointment. While hydrocortisone can provide shortterm relief from itching, it doesn't address the root cause and can actually delay recovery.

Moreover, it's not advisable to use human medications directly on your dog's skin.

It's essential to identify the exact cause of the skin disease in dogs, as improper medication can exacerbate the condition.

Dogs' skin is structurally different from humans', and certain human medications can cause skin irritation in dogs.

So, what should you do when your dog has skin problems?

Ensure your dog wears a muzzle, trim its nails, and prevent it from licking or scratching the affected areas.

Take your dog to a veterinary clinic for a skin examination to determine the type of skin disease and tailor the treatment accordingly.

Always wash your hands thoroughly after applying medication to your dog to avoid infection.

Supplement your dog's diet with vitamin B and unsaturated fatty acids to boost its skin immunity and accelerate healing.

Disinfect your dog's living environment and its belongings with Quick Disinfectant (hypochlorous acid disinfectant) to prevent recurrence of the infection.
