Effective Medications for Teddy Dog Fungal Skin Disease
Hello everyone, welcome to Oxygen Pet Doctor~
Dear pet owners, how is your furry friend's skin doing?
July and August are peak seasons for fungal skin infections in our little furballs! It's not just a nightmare for the dogs, but also a source of immense worry for us, the pet parents.
Take a look at this cute Teddy dog in the image below. It has several circular ringworm spots on its back, with flaky scales, crusts, and hair loss, which are classic symptoms of a fungal infection.
What is a fungal infection?
Fungal skin diseases, also known as ringworm, are extremely common in dogs!
They typically present with:
● Hair loss
● Severe itching on the face, neck, trunk, limbs, and paw pads
● Lesions that gradually expand, forming circular or elliptical patterns
● In some cases, there may be no hair loss, but local bumps and pustules
How to treat fungal infections in Teddy dogs?
Mild infections:
● Thoroughly trim the fur around the affected skin areas and disinfect with iodine
● Apply Dasatin (ketоконазол ointment) topically every 12 hours until the lesions heal
Severe infections:
● In addition to topical treatments
● Bathing with Banov Shampoo once or twice a week for at least 48 weeks
● Oral medication: Itraconazole at 510mg/kg, mixed with food and administered every 24 hours
Tip: Possible side effects include loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, and elevated liver enzymes. Not to be used in animals with liver disease or pregnant animals.
Other important notes:
● Provide your Teddy with highquality protein, unsaturated fatty acids, and Vitamin B in their diet
● Keep the dog's living environment clean and dry, and occasionally let them bask in the sun
● Always put a collar on the affected dog to prevent them from licking the wounds and to avoid accidental ingestion of medication
● Reduce the intake of highallergen foods (such as beef and chicken) during treatment
● Thoroughly clean and disinfect the environment with 84 disinfectant solution diluted with water at a ratio of 1:10
