Hello everyone, welcome to Oxygen Pet Doctor~
Among the various skin diseases that dogs are prone to, mange, I dare to call it the most severe and tenacious skin condition!
Pet owners, take this seriously!
Canine Scabies
Canine scabies is a chronic parasitic disease that affects dogs and is caused by the canine scabies mite.
Symptoms of Canine Scabies
▶ The affected areas become red and extremely itchy, with the dog constantly rubbing and biting at the spots.
▶ Small nodules appear locally, which then turn into small blisters.
▶ After breaking, scabs form, and some may exude fluid.
▶ Hair falls out in the affected areas, creating a stark contrast with the surrounding healthy skin.
▶ The skin thickens, forming cracks in areas of tension, and emits a foulsmelling secretion.
▶ The dog may lose weight and become listless and depressed.
▶ Scabies primarily affects the dog's head (nose bridge, eye sockets, base of the ears), and sometimes also occurs on the chest, underbelly, armpits, inner thighs, and base of the tail. It can then spread throughout the body.
▶ Once a dog is infected with canine scabies, it is not easy to eliminate, prone to recurrence, and highly contagious to other dogs! This disease can cause severe infections in a dog population within a short period.
Causes of Canine Scabies
▶ Summer is a high season for scabies due to the most favorable temperatures for the mite's reproduction.
▶ Poor hygiene and dampness in the environment where the dog spends most of its time.
▶ Not conducting regular internal and external deworming.
▶ Crossinfection with dogs suffering from scabies.
Treatment for Canine Scabies
【Treatment Approach: Mite Control + Disinfection + Infection Prevention】
▶ External Deworming: Use Ultracan.
▶ Subcutaneous or intramuscular injection of 1% ivermectin, 0.05mg/kg, once a week until cured.
▶ Apply 10% sulfur ointment to the affected areas, using it once daily for several days in a row.
▶ Dipping Bath: Use 10ml of dimetridazole emulsion diluted in 5 liters of water (warm water) for a dip bath, 510 minutes each time, once every other day, for 35 consecutive dips.
▶ Alleviate itching: Oral Neumeno (chlorphenamine maleate tablets) can effectively relieve the allergic itching caused by canine scabies, providing significant relief.
▶ Full House Disinfection: The dog's bed and the owner's home also need to be sprayed with insecticides to eliminate pests.
▶ Wear a Head Collar: To prevent the dog from further licking or scratching the affected areas, causing secondary damage to the skin.
Prevention of Canine Scabies
▶ Regular deworming to prevent parasitic infections.
▶ Keep the dog's living environment clean and hygienic, and regularly disinfect the home.
▶ In multipet households, isolate dogs with scabies from other pets to prevent direct transmission.
▶ Supplement the dog's diet with fish oil, vitamin B, and unsaturated fatty acids to enhance the dog's skin immunity.
▶ Ensure the dog's fur is completely dry after bathing to prevent skin diseases!
