Can Dog Feces Contain Rabies Virus?
Rabies virus is a neurotropic anaerobic virus that primarily resides in bodily fluids and nervous tissue, displaying a high level of vulnerability to external conditions. It is highly sensitive to the environment, as it loses its activity within minutes if it cannot find a host in the air. In environments frequently exposed to sunlight, wind, and rain, the virus does not survive for long. It can be killed by substances such as ultraviolet light, weak alkalis, alcohol, and weak acids. Clinically, rabies virus does not transmit indirectly, as it is highly susceptible to inactivation in the external environment.
Dog Bites Its Owner
1. Symptoms
Many pet owners are unaware of the symptoms of rabies in dogs. Here's a brief overview: The onset of rabies typically results in spasms throughout the body. When the muscles in the throat or mouth spasm, the dog may be unable to make a sound or may produce a growling noise, predominantly '汪汪汪' sounds, and may also drool. There may be strong contractions in the muscles of the neck, back, or limbs, leading to convulsions or, in severe cases, arching of the back. If the respiratory muscles become paralyzed or continuously spasm, it can cause difficulty breathing. Dogs with rabies are also highly sensitive to sounds and light, which can trigger spasms throughout the body, and in severe cases, can lead to coma or shock, posing a risk to their lives.
2. Treatment
After being bitten by a rabid dog, it is crucial to immediately clean the wound thoroughly with tap water or soap and water. After cleaning, cover the wound with a bandage. If the bite is severe, the owner should seek medical attention promptly.
Following a bite from a dog carrying rabies, it is essential to receive immediate vaccination against rabies or a tetanus antitoxin to prevent infection.
3. Tips for Prevention
It is important for pet owners to vaccinate their dogs against rabies. Avoid direct contact between the infected dog and healthy pets. Keep a safe distance from animals that may carry rabies.
