It's with a heavy heart that I share my story. Due to my negligence, my beloved dog, Doudou, suffered unnecessary pain. Today, I'm choosing to recount my experience in the hope that all pet owners will take me as a cautionary tale, learn from my mistakes, and prevent their pets from enduring such unnecessary suffering. Let's strive to better safeguard our dogs' health.

Doudou, my Bichon Frise, had a bit of long fur around his eyes, which unfortunately led me to overlook a potential issue. It wasn't until a routine grooming session that I noticed his eyes were a bit red. Initially, I dismissed it as a simple case of irritation. However, as the redness worsened, I applied erythromycin ointment, which helped a little but didn't resolve the problem. The redness lessened, but the area around his eyes became bald. Seeing the improvement, I let my guard down, little did I know that I was on the brink of a much bigger issue.

It wasn't until recently, when I took Doudou to the vet for a tail check, that the attentive doctor noticed the redness around his eyes, along with hair loss. She informed me that Doudou's follicles were severely damaged. It was then that I realized Doudou had shown signs of distress two months prior, but my ignorance had prevented me from seeking timely treatment. After a skin microscope examination, the diagnosis was a bacterial infection. The vet prescribed two medications: an antibiotic and Beranming (neomycin sulfate eye drops). Within a week, Doudou's eyes had healed.

My dog's condition was caused by a bacterial infection, making these medications suitable. However, before the diagnosis, the vet outlined several potential causes, which I've summarized below:

Bacterial or fungal infections: Both can lead to local hair loss around the eyes.

Treatment: Bacterial infections require antibacterial ointments, such as Pipute skin antibacterial spray; fungal infections need antifungal medications, like Pipute (terbinafine hydrochloride spray). Follow the vet's instructions for application. Oral antibiotics can also be used to accelerate inflammation reduction.

Scabies: This condition is characterized by redness and hair loss at the affected sites.

Treatment: Use petspecific deworming medication, along with petspecific antibacterial medications and topical antibacterial treatments.

Heat stroke: Eating too much oil or salt can lead to heat stroke in dogs, causing excessive eye discharge and potentially leading to bacterial infections.

Treatment: Refer to the first treatment method. Ensure your dog drinks plenty of water, adjust their diet, and feed them scientifically to enhance their immunity.

Overall, the treatment approach varies depending on the cause, and appropriate measures should be taken based on the specific situation.

During the treatment, the vet also advised me on how to care for Doudou:

Maintain eye hygiene: Regularly wipe Doudou's eye area with a clean damp cloth or cotton swab to remove discharge and dirt.

Adjust diet: During the skin condition, it's recommended to feed only dog food, avoiding meat, eggs, milk, and snacks that may cause allergies. Ensure a balanced diet to enhance immunity.

Keep the environment clean: Maintain a clean and hygienic living environment for Doudou, regularly disinfect and ventilate the area.

Regular deworming: Regularly deworm your dog internally and externally to reduce the risk of parasitic infections.

In all, I am incredibly grateful for the vet's meticulous care. Without it, I might have continued to overlook the problem, potentially leading to even greater consequences. The vet informed me that Doudou's condition was already quite severe, with damaged follicles.

Lastly, I hope all pet owners can be as attentive as I was not, and avoid delaying your pets' treatment due to momentary oversight. Take proactive care and preventive measures in daily life to ensure your dogs' health and happiness!
