Cat Estrus: When Do Cats Typically Start to Mate?

Similarly, rubbing a male cat's private area with a wet cotton swab is not recommended, as they are highly sensitive during estrus and can be easily injured or bitten. A better approach is to distract your cat with toys like a laser pointer or a ball, offering her multiple feedings and wet food to keep her occupied. Avoid bathing your cat during estrus.
