Section 1: The Habits of Rabbits

1. Rabbits have a relatively small lung capacity, which means they can become quite stressed in high temperatures or under pressure. When this happens, you might notice their nostrils flaring and rapid breathing as they struggle to cope with the heat or stress.

2. Rabbits are highly territorial creatures. They often mark their favorite spots to assert their territory, signaling to other rabbits that these areas are offlimits.

3. Rabbits are sensitive and prone to being startled. They can experience significant stress from minor changes, such as a shift in environment, loud noises, weather changes, a new diet, sudden scares, or the introduction of new rabbits. This stress can lead to refusal to eat, abnormal behavior, and even illness in extreme cases.

4. It's not uncommon to see rabbits eat their own soft feces, a behavior that might seem odd but is actually quite normal and beneficial for their health. Rabbits have a large, spiralshaped cecum that is teeming with beneficial gut bacteria. This bacteria produces essential nutrients and vitamins that rabbits need. The soft feces, known as cecal pellets, contain protein, B vitamins, and probiotics, which is why rabbits consume them and derive health benefits from doing so.

5. Rabbits are highly alert and agile animals. Their keen ears not only help regulate their body temperature but also enable them to quickly detect any movement, thanks to their strong, welljumping hind legs. This agility allows them to swiftly evade predators.

6. Rabbits are primarily nocturnal, although they can be seen during the day. They tend to rest in cool, shaded areas and come alive at night, when their unique eyes allow them to see clearly in the dim light.

7. Rabbits are also highly adaptable and have a rapid reproductive rate. A single litter can consist of 3 to 9 kits, and rabbits can complete the process of fertilization, pregnancy, and childbirth within about a month. Without proper control, rabbits can reproduce at an alarming rate. While this is impressive, rapid breeding can lead to a decline in kit quality and an early culling of female rabbits.
