Effective Treatments for Turtle's White Eye Disease

Section 1: Causes of Turtle's White Eye Disease

The disease is primarily caused by excessive rearing density and overly alkaline water conditions. It tends to manifest most frequently during spring and autumn, and it often affects young turtles more than adults.

Section 2: Treatment for Turtle's White Eye Disease

In cases of solitary turtle farming, affected turtles can be treated with antibiotic eye drops, such as erythromycin ointment. Apply the ointment to the affected area of the turtle 1 to 2 times daily. Concurrently, administer penicillin injections to the turtle, with a dosage of 4 to 5 million international units per kilogram of turtle body weight. Administer the injection once daily for 2 to 3 consecutive days. If multiple turtles are affected, dissolve an antibiotic in the water to treat all turtles, using an approximate concentration of 500,000 to 1,000,000 international units per liter of water. Submerge the turtles in this solution for 30 to 60 minutes, several times a day, until they recover.

For turtles with milder symptoms and open eyes, soaking them in furazolidone or furazolidone hydrochloride solutions can be effective. Maintain a concentration of 30 ml/L of water and soak the turtles for 40 minutes each time, repeating the process for 3 to 5 days. For turtles with eyes that cannot open, first clean out the white matter and necrotic skin from the eyes. Then, immerse the turtle in a solution of vitamin B or terramycin, with concentrations of half a tablet per 500g of water or 2 tablets per 500g of water, respectively.

For greenscaled turtles, it is recommended to apply furazolidone directly to the eyes rather than submerging them in the solution.

Section 3: Prevention of Turtle's White Eye Disease

1. Enhance husbandry management by maintaining clean water quality in the turtle pond. After feeding the turtles, especially during hot weather, change the water in the pond promptly to prevent food residue from decomposing and contaminating the water. It is also advisable to regularly disinfect the rearing containers with lime to create a healthy environment conducive to the turtles' growth. Note: The new water provided to the turtles should not be tap water but must be tap water that has been left to sit for over two days.

2. During periods when turtle's white eye disease is prevalent, consider supplementing the turtles' diet with animal liver or other nutritional sources to boost their immunity and reduce the likelihood of infection.
