Section 1: Rabbits' Dependence on Light

Light is an indispensable natural element for the healthy growth of rabbits. Longhaired rabbits, in particular, have a stronger dependence on light, as the duration and intensity of light significantly impact their fur production.

Appropriate lighting can promote the growth and development of rabbits, as well as accelerate the growth of their fur. Regardless of the rabbit breed or whether they are kept in pens or allowed to roam freely, it is crucial to ensure that rabbits receive adequate light exposure. During overcast weather or in winter when daylight hours are shorter, natural light may be insufficient, and therefore, owners should supplement with artificial lighting to boost metabolism and ensure the rabbits' healthy growth and development.

However, rabbits have different requirements for artificial and natural light, and their effects on rabbits also vary. Generally, longhaired rabbits raised under moderate natural light produce about 18% more fur than those in environments with insufficient light. Moreover, rabbits kept under moderate artificial lighting produce about 35% more fur than those in natural light conditions. Therefore, longhaired rabbits have a relatively high demand for light, and a larger采光 area in the rabbit shed is more beneficial for their growth.

Many farmers who raise meat rabbits in pens often overlook the need to provide light for the rabbits. In fact, penned rabbits also require sufficient light exposure, but the intensity of the light should not be too high, and the采光 area should not be too large. Additionally, to conserve energy and increase weight, meat rabbits should not be excessively active. Therefore, the windows in the rabbit shed should be opened and closed flexibly, allowing them to be opened during feeding times and closed after feeding, creating an environment conducive to their rest.

Section 2: Controlling Light Exposure

Under most circumstances, natural light is the primary source of lighting for rabbits, with artificial light serving as a supplement. For instance, during the breeding season, does require 16 hours of light. To compensate for any shortfall in natural light, artificial lighting should be used, typically before sunrise or after sunset.

Dr. Oxygen Pet温馨提示Moderate lighting is highly beneficial for rabbits' growth, health, reproduction, and maintaining the cleanliness of the rabbit shed. It is recommended that owners release their rabbits for sunlight and exercise according to the specific light requirements of each breed, ensuring they receive adequate exposure. However, it is important to manage the timing of their sunlight and exercise, especially during the summer months, to prevent rabbits from overheating and dehydrating.
