Cats Kidney Failure: Symptoms & Treatment Methods Expla
Renal failure in cats can be categorized into two distinct types: Acute Kidney Failure and Chronic Kidney Failure.
Acute Kidney Failure: This condition often arises due to feline lower urinary tract syndrome, leading to urinary blockage, severe dehydration, and toxicity. With proper treatment to maintain urethral patency and timely management of symptoms, recovery is typically possible.
However, if the acute kidney injury is severe and the kidney function is impaired for an extended period, exceeding 75% of the kidney's capacity, it can progress to Chronic Kidney Failure.
Chronic Kidney Failure presents with symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, weight loss, loss of appetite, gingivitis, vomiting, and dehydration. Animals with Chronic Kidney Failure require a diet that is low in protein. Since protein intake is restricted, the body needs to obtain its energy from carbohydrates and fats. Specifically, the fats referred to here are unsaturated fatty acids, which include Omega3 fatty acids.
