Section 1: Treatment Steps for Feline Kidney Stones

1. Uroscopy: In cases of complete obstruction, where cats exhibit frequent urination and reduced urine output, uroscopy must be performed within 24 hours. It is crucial to monitor your cat's bowel movements closely. If you notice your cat frequently squatting without producing urine in the pelvic area, seek veterinary care immediately. Delaying treatment can be dangerous. Uroscopy is a simple, safe, and highly effective surgical procedure. If a cat is unable to urinate for more than 24 hours, it can lead to bladder rupture, severe bleeding, urinary toxicity, and ultimately, death. Postprocedure, your cat will require injections and medication.

2. Intravenous Medication: For cats experiencing frequent urination without blockage, intravenous medication can be administered without the need for uroscopy.

Administer half a packet of Amoxicillin orally twice a day, either by syringe or mixed with cat food.

Prescribe potent medications such as Pukang Su, as well as common drugs like Fluphenazine.

Use Furanthiadine.

Administer Gentamicin either intravenously or orally.

Inject Penicillin.

Give Cefradine (0.25g/day, twice) mixed with 2ml of sterile water and 0.5g of Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate (0.5ml/day, once in the evening).

Feeding traditional Chinese medicine such as Urinary Sensitivity Clearing Granules, Sanjin Tablets, Jin Cao, Shi Lin Tong, and Ji Shi Tong.

For severe cases, combine one injectable and one Western medicine. For mild cases, a single type of medication can be chosen, administered approximately every 5 days.

Administer hemostatic injections for urinary bleeding, typically one injection per day for three consecutive days, or consider taking hemostatic agents. Common hemostatic injections include Eptacillin or Ethamsylate.

After uroscopy, you can also directly inject an appropriate amount of antiinflammatory and analgesic medication into the bladder (through the uroscopy tube).

Section 2: Prognosis for Feline Kidney Stones

1. Increased Fluid Intake: For cats with incomplete obstruction, it is essential to encourage them to drink more water.

2. Avoid Irrigation: For cats with complete obstruction, irrigation should not be performed until the blockage is cleared to prevent bladder rupture.

3. Cat Food Selection: With a wide variety of cat food available, opt for formulas designed to prevent urinary system diseases.

4. Moderate Exercise: Encourage your cat to engage in some physical activity, but ensure it is appropriate for their condition.

When administering medication, comfort your cat while giving the medication. It's best to use a syringe for feeding, ensuring the needle is removed before feeding. Start from the side to avoid resistance, as cats often dislike being fed from the front.
