On average, smaller dog breeds tend to have a longer lifespan, whereas larger breeds usually live for about ten years. This makes the life span of a Shiba Inu relatively short. Therefore, Dr. Oxygen Pet Advocate suggests that pet owners should cherish their time with their Shiba Inu, spending more quality moments with their beloved companion.

How Long Do Shiba Inus Live?

The puppyhood of a Shiba Inu spans from birth to one year. During this period, their immune system is relatively weak, so it's crucial for pet owners to invest more effort in caring for their Shiba Inu. This includes ensuring proper vaccination schedules and regular deworming treatments, both internally and externally, to ensure a safe and joyful transition into adulthood. Pet owners should also be aware that once the Shiba Inu reaches adulthood, they will gradually enter the breeding phase. This is a time when they are at their most beautiful and physically robust.

However, the prime of a Shiba Inu's life is relatively short, lasting only about 6 to 7 years. Around the age of 8, they will begin to enter their senior years. During this stage, Shiba Inus will stop reproducing and their bodily functions will gradually decline. It is during this time that pet owners need to provide extra care to ensure their Shiba Inu enjoys a comfortable and contented twilight years.

Owners can enhance their Shiba Inu's lifespan by taking them for regular walks and ensuring they receive moderate exercise. Shiba Inus are intelligent dogs that are easy to train and possess a keen sense of alertness, making them excellent hunting dogs and a popular choice among pet lovers. While they can be mischievous at home, they are also quite trainable. It's essential for pet owners to provide proper care and attention, ensuring their Shiba Inu finds joy and happiness in their company.
