Section 1: Comprehensive Treatment for Rabbit Enteritis

The treatment of rabbit enteritis focuses on a multifaceted approach that includes antiinflammatory, antibacterial, fluid replacement, and detoxification measures. Additionally, the treatment is supplemented with gastrointestinal cleansing, antidiarrheal, cardiac support, and pain relief. It is crucial to first identify the exact cause of the illness in the rabbit and rule out other potential causes. Targeted treatment should then be administered, and proper care of the affected rabbit is essential to enhance treatment efficacy and maximize the chances of recovery.

1. Cleaning the Rabbit's Intestines and Eliminating Toxins

To effectively cleanse the rabbit's gastrointestinal tract and expel harmful contents, consider administering a mild laxative. For instance, dissolve 3 to 5 grams of Epsom salt in an appropriate amount of water and administer it to the rabbit.

2. Protecting the Mucous Membrane and Preventing Toxin Absorption

To safeguard the rabbit's mucous membranes and prevent toxin absorption, mix 1 to 2 grams of silicagel with a suitable amount of starch paste and administer it to the rabbit. This combination can offer excellent protection to the gastrointestinal mucosa and block the absorption of toxins.

3. Preventing Putrefaction and Fermentation of Gastrointestinal Contents and Antibacterial Inflammation

To prevent the spoilage and fermentation of gastrointestinal contents and to provide antibacterial and antiinflammatory treatment, use rabbitspecific antibacterial medications. Alternatively, administer 5 grams of minced garlic mixed with water to the rabbit three to four times daily. If the rabbit exhibits a rise in body temperature, administer 10,000 to 15,000 international units of gentamicin via intramuscular injection twice or thrice daily.

4. Prompt Fluid Replacement to Prevent Dehydration

Rabbits with enteritis often succumb to dehydration and exhaustion. Therefore, fluid replacement therapy is vital. Administer a single intravenous injection of 20 to 30 milliliters of 5% glucose saline, 5 to 10 milliliters of 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, and 10 milliliters of 10% sodium benzoate solution.

5. Alleviating Abdominal Pain

To relieve abdominal pain, give the rabbit 0.5 to 1.0 milliliters of belladonna tincture, which can effectively alleviate pain.

Section 2: Consolidation Therapy for Rabbit Enteritis

After treating rabbit enteritis, a period of recovery is necessary. During this time, it's important to reinforce gastrointestinal repair. Administer gastrointestinal tonics, such as 2 to 3 tablets of大黄苏打片 (Dahuang Shuadao Pian) or 3 to 4 tablets of dry yeast, mixed with water and administered to the rabbit twice or thrice daily.

Important Reminder from Oxygen Pet Doctor: If the rabbit's enteritis is secondary, it is essential to investigate the underlying cause of the primary disease and understand the specific pathological changes before implementing a comprehensive treatment plan that includes addressing the primary condition.
