Mongolian Wolfhounds: Types, Appearance Features

Section 1: The Physical Characteristics of the Mongolian Wolf Dog

The majestic male Mongolian wolf dog stands at a towering height of 108 to 170 centimeters, with a chest width ranging from 18 to 30 centimeters, and a shoulder height of 75 centimeters. The female Mongolian wolf dog, on the other hand, measures between 107 and 150 centimeters in length, with a chest width of 16.1 to 24 centimeters. These dogs typically weigh around 38 kilograms. Most Mongolian wolf dogs are predominantly black, adorned with yellow and white spots on their chests, faces, legs, and tails. Their most distinctive feature is a pair of symmetrical, round yellow or brown spots above their eyebrows, a hallmark of the breed!

Their long, fine fur and dense undercoat make them appear like a lion during the shedding season in winter. The Mongolian wolf dog's voice is deep and powerful, uniquely recognizable. Even from a distance of 250 to 300 meters, they possess excellent hearing, capable of picking up their owner's call. Section 2: Types of Mongolian Wolf Dogs

1. Tibetan Mastiff

Long before the Mongolian and Tibetan regions were consecrated as centers of Lamaism, the two nations shared a similar culture due to their exchanges. Every year, thousands of lamas visit Tibet for pilgrimage, and many also reside in the capital of Mongolia.

2. Siberian Laika

Originating from the coniferous forests of the Tibetan region, the Siberian Laika arrived in Mongolia from the northern regions. These dogs share the same size as the Mongolian wolf dogs but have slightly longer legs and less robust bones. They are commonly used for hunting and are predominantly found in the mountainous regions of northern Mongolia.

3. Central Asian Sighthound

Also known as the Quick Brown Hound, this breed is primarily distributed in the northeastern regions of Mongolia.

4. Mongolian Dog

Similar to the Tibetan Mastiff, the Mongolian Dog is a robust breed. In the 1970s and 1980s, veterinary experts conducted research and confirmed that the Mongolian Dog's size matched the descriptions provided.
