Section 1: Addressing the Issue of Does Not Come into Heat in Female Rabbits

1. Physiological Causes: If the female rabbit's reproductive organs are congenitally malformed or underdeveloped, leading to an absence of heat, such rabbits should be culled.

2. Pathological Causes:

1. Nutritional Issues: Overweight or underweight conditions, or a deficiency in certain nutrients, can cause female rabbits to fail to come into heat.

Solution: Adjust the feeding amount or alter the feed formula to ensure the rabbit maintains a healthy weight and balanced nutrition.

2. Ovarian Cysts: This condition is characterized by irregular estrus cycles, including onetime or persistent heat, or a prolonged absence of heat.

Solution: Administer progesterone intramuscularly to the rabbit once daily for 5 to 7 consecutive days.

3. Persistent Corpus Luteum: This often affects firstlitter rabbits, where the corpus luteum secretes progesterone excessively, leading to an abnormal sexual cycle and a lack of heat.

Solution: Use cloprostenol for this rabbit, administering one vial at a time for 2 to 3 days.

4. Infection by Bacteria and Other Microorganisms: Infections can lead to an absence of heat.

Solution: After each birth, promptly inject postpartum care or lactation care into the rabbit.

5. Inflammation: Inflammation can also cause a lack of heat.

A. Mild Inflammation: Normal estrus but failure to conceive.

B. Severe Inflammation: Prolonged absence of heat with discharge of lochia.

Solution: For rabbits with mild inflammation, mix penicillin 400,000 units with 2ml of houttuynia to be injected intramuscularly the day before mating.

Section 2: Preventing Infertility in Female Rabbits

1. Poor Living Conditions: Poor ventilation, humidity, inadequate lighting, or a lack of contact with male rabbits due to longterm isolation, or a lack of sexual stimulation can all lead to infertility in female rabbits. To address this, improve the rabbit's living conditions and consider allowing male rabbits to interact with them through mounting to stimulate heat.

2. Grouping Unresponsive Rabbits: For rabbits that have not come into heat for an extended period, keeping them in small groups and introducing male rabbits to chase and play with them can be an effective way to stimulate estrus. If the rabbits still do not come into heat, consider injecting them with cloprostenol, followed by equine chorionic gonadotropin every other day, or administering "ovulation stimulant" mixed with feed.

3. ShortTerm Enhanced Feeding: According to the rabbit's condition, adding extra feed one week before mating can help stimulate estrus and ovulation, making the rabbit more receptive to mating.

4. Heat Stress: Rabbits are sensitive to heat, and exposure to heat can lead to reproductive disorders.

Tip from Oxygen Pet Doctor: There are many reasons why female rabbits may not come into heat, and some cases may simply be a normal physiological rejection rather than a disease. However, it is observed that a significant number of rabbits do not come into heat after a heatwave. When dealing with the issue of rabbits not coming into heat, owners should systematically rule out the various causes and provide targeted treatment or management.
