Types of Yorkshire Terrier Styles

One: Standard Cut

This is the most classic and common style for Yorkshire Terriers. The hallmark of this cut is to shave the fur on the back, leaving the hair on the legs, tail, and head intact.

Advantages: The short fur creates a striking contrast with the longer hair, giving the dog a dainty appearance. Maintaining the long fur on the belly makes it look as if the dog is wearing a little skirt, exuding elegance in formal settings and a carefree vibe during outdoor activities.

Disadvantages: Not everyone favors the mustache look. Long hair can grow into the eyes, causing excessive tearing, and during meals, it can get dirty and even be ingested along with food.

Two: Sleek and Tidy Cut

I believe this style is particularly suitable for Yorkies. The fur is trimmed short all over, with the mouth area rounded for a clean and refreshing look. Bathing is quicker, and it's less prone to getting dirty or tangled. The tail hair is also trimmed, and the legs' fur is shortened for easier grooming. Yorkies have a sturdy and natural appearance, especially with the distinct lines of the head and back, which require four different lengths of electric clippers to achieve the characteristic look.

Three: Pony Cut

The pony cut typically features long hair on the belly, resembling a skirt, with a mustache on the face. The hair on the chin is trimmed in a Vshape, the eyebrows are trimmed into pointy shapes, and the shoulder hair is styled to flow over the body, creating the skirtlike appearance. Since the pony cut retains some hair on the face, belly, and legs, it's recommended to brush the dog daily to prevent the fur from becoming unruly.

Four: Chubby Baby Cut

This style involves keeping the dog's long fur all over, with the ears' hair naturally hanging down over the cheeks, giving the Yorkie a teddy bearlike, round, and adorable look. The downside is that it requires frequent grooming, which can be inconvenient for the dog.

Five: Noble Cut

The noble style is ideal for Yorkies with a lot of fur. It involves trimming the long fur around the top of the head while leaving the rest untrimmed, allowing the dog's jaw and chest fur to complement its upright ears, exuding an air of regal elegance.

Six: Panda Cut

This style is perfect for Yorkies with light gray fur, especially those with light gray mustaches and eyebrows and a ring of fine black lashes around the eyes. By shaving the fur around the eyes and trimming it to resemble panda eyes, the dog's big eyes become even more charming and playful.

Seven: Lamb Cut

This style is suitable for Yorkies with naturally curly fur or unique looks. It involves modifying the face shape of the dog to resemble a lamb's, which is not commonly chosen. This style allows both slim and fluffy Yorkies to have a natural, endearing face.

While you can choose a style based on your preference, some cuts may not be suitable for your dog's appearance. Therefore, it's important to consider your dog's specific characteristics when selecting a style.
