Are Female Dogs Really Smarter Than Male Dogs?
From a behavioral perspective, it's true that male dogs often require more attention from their owners. They can become restless due to the scent of estrous females, and they may engage in fights for dominance or with other male dogs.
So, does that mean it's best to adopt a female dog? Not necessarily. As the saying goes, "Every household has its own set of troubles." While male dogs may have their share of issues, the owners of female dogs are far from lounging in comfort at home.
Research has shown that female dogs are actually smarter than male dogs.
Research Process:
A study conducted by the University of Vienna involved testing 50 Golden Retrievers, Poodles, Australian Shepherds, and mixed breeds. The test was straightforward:
1. A blue ball rolled past the dog, followed by another blue ball.
2. A blue large ball rolled past the dog, followed by another blue large ball.
3. A blue ball rolled past the dog, followed by a blue large ball.
4. A blue large ball rolled past the dog, followed by a blue ball.
The researchers found that male and female dogs showed similar attention times in the first two steps. However, by the third step, male dogs became increasingly impatient, reducing their gaze on the balls. In contrast, female dogs showed a growing interest, paying more attention to the ball that suddenly became larger. The fourth step yielded similar results. Male dogs showed no interest in the ball's size change, while female dogs were very concerned about the ball's transformation. This suggests that, like humans, there are indeed differences between the sexes.
The University of Vienna also conducted the same test on neutered male and female dogs, and the results were consistent. This proves that hormonal secretions within the body do not affect a dog's judgment. Therefore, female dogs are indeed smarter.
Are Female Dogs Really Better?
Although female dogs are indeed more perceptive and, in a sense, smarter, this doesn't mean that owning a female dog is a walk in the park. How many female dog owners would consider the twiceyearly estrus cycle a mere trifle? Not only do you have to deal with bloodstains all over the house, but your dog will also be pursued by other dogs, sniffing at every turn. Who can bear that when all you want is a quiet walk with your dog?
Don't think that puppy pads will solve the problem. Due to their reproductive anatomy, female dogs are more susceptible to gynecological diseases. Although canine gynecological issues are not common, when they do occur, they can be quite a headache for owners.
Advantages of Male Dogs:
While the article initially highlighted several drawbacks of male dogs, they also have numerous advantages.
From a training standpoint, male dogs are generally more服从 (obedient), making training easier. While female dogs are also quite服从, their maternal nature is better suited for roles as guard dogs. After all, a female dog's protective instincts towards her offspring, whether it's her owner or a puppy, are unmatched by male dogs.
