After giving birth, cats often experience a persistent dribbling of urine, which is typically due to postpartum deficiency of Qi and blood, as well as insufficient middle Qi. This condition can manifest in three distinct types:

1. Qi Deficiency Type: Cats with this type may exhibit symptoms of frequent urination or incontinence, with their urine appearing relatively clear. They may appear tired and weak, with thin and pale tongue coating.

2. Kidney Deficiency Type: Cats suffering from this type will have severe symptoms of frequent urination, sometimes up to ten or more times a day, and may also experience incontinence. Their urine will be pale. They may also have symptoms of soreness in the lumbar and joint areas of the limbs, feel cold in their limbs, and have a pale tongue with thin coating.

3. Postpartum Trauma Type: This type often occurs after difficult deliveries. Cats may not be able to control their urination, experience slight pain during urination, and notice blood in their urine. The blood may eventually disappear, but the pain may worsen, and they may lose control over urination. The tongue coating will be thin and white.

Treatment: The traditional Chinese medicine formula, Gui Xiang Chai Sheng Decoction, is typically effective. It usually requires just one dose to resolve the issue.

Formula: The formula consists of 15g of Danggui (Angelica sinensis), 15g of Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong), 8g of Chaihu (Bupleurum chinense), and 8g of Shengma (Cimicifuga foetida) for cats weighing between 1.5 to 2.5 kg. The herbs are decocted in water and administered on an empty stomach, twice a day, with 10ml per dose. Danggui and Chuanxiong are used to nourish blood and invigorate circulation, while Chaihu and Shengma help to elevate the clear Yang and strengthen the middle Qi.
