Part 1: Do Cats Need to Be Walked?

Frankly, for pet cats living in urban homes, there's actually no necessity to take them out for walks. Cats naturally have a lower level of physical activity, and with their incredible jumping abilities, they can easily satisfy their daily exercise needs by leaping from furniture like sofas, cabinets, and tables within the confines of a small indoor space. For such cats, outdoor activities are not as crucial.

However, it's important to remember that cats are also wild animals at heart. It's not accurate to say they don't enjoy outdoor play. If your cat isn't averse to going outside, you might consider taking them out for a stroll occasionally.

Part 2: Which Types of Cats Should Not Be Walked?

1. New Cats in Their Homes

Newly arrived cats are often quite stressed and may experience some form of stress. Since they're still getting to know their owners, taking them out could exacerbate their anxiety, potentially leading to frightening experiences for the cat.

2. Fearful Cats

Not all cats are fond of the outdoors. Many breeds are naturally shy, and if your cat trembles at the sound of loud noises at home, it's best to keep them indoors and avoid any unnecessary outings.

3. Sick or Weak Cats

The environment outside can be complex and unpredictable. For cats that are sick or weak, exposure to the outside world could lead to infections from bacteria and other microorganisms, worsening their condition or even causing new illnesses.

Part 3: What to Keep in Mind When Walking Cats?

The biggest risk when taking cats out for a walk is the possibility of them getting lost. Cats are drawn to exploring hidden nooks and crannies, moving swiftly and nimbly, which can lead to them disappearing in an instant. Moreover, many cats do not respond promptly or loudly when called, making it crucial to keep a close eye on them during walks.

Some might suggest using a leash to prevent loss, but compared to dogs, cats tend to dislike the feeling of being confined. A leash can quickly dampen their spirits and even leave lasting psychological scars. Therefore, if you do need to use a leash, it's advisable to first desensitize your cat to it at home.
