It's quite astonishing to learn that the very source of these allergies can actually help reduce the risk of them.

    A medical report published in the 2015 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics, by a Swedish research team, revealed that children who have been in contact with dogs from a young age or who frequently interact with farm animals have a significantly lower risk of developing asthma by school age. Moreover, children from petowning families, who are exposed to bacteria and allergens from a young age, tend to develop tolerance to these allergens as they grow up, much like how cats and dogs are vaccinated.

    According to a 2015 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), children with pets in the household have a much lower probability of developing anxiety disorders.

    A study published by the National Institutes of Health in May 2017 found that children in families with dogs showed significantly lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, when they were actively engaged with their pets compared to those who were not. Stress hormones are released by the adrenal glands when we are stressed, causing blood vessels to constrict and blood pressure to rise, helping the body cope with tension. However, excessive release of stress hormones can stimulate the production of stomach acid, leading to stomach ulcers if the acid burns the stomach lining.
