Earthquake: Brave Dog Rushes Home to Save Owner!
The Animal's Sensitivity to Earthquakes
1. The Warning of PreShocks
Before a major earthquake strikes, it is often preceded by minor tremors. These small earthquakes are so faint that they might only be felt as a heavy vehicle passing by. Although they occur frequently, their intensity is not strong enough to trigger alarm. Therefore, when experiencing minor tremors, it is crucial to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of yourself and your family.
2. Monitoring Water Levels
Prior to an earthquake, there is often a sudden rise in water levels in wells, rivers, and springs. This can manifest as inexplicable sudden increases in water levels, with the appearance of splashes, bubbles, or even an unpleasant odor. Sometimes, the color of the water may change mysteriously, creating an eerie atmosphere.
3. Observing CavityDwelling Animals
Animals that live in caves, such as rats and snakes, typically do not venture out during the day. However, before an earthquake, these creatures may suddenly emerge from their hiding places in large numbers, especially during the daytime. This is a sign to be aware of any unusual occurrences.
4. Other Animals' Behavior
Livestock like cows, horses, pigs, dogs, and cats may exhibit abnormal behaviors, such as excessive barking, refusal to enter their pens, or even escaping their enclosures. Pets may become disobedient or extremely anxious.
5. Observation of Flying Animals
Various birds, as well as domesticated chickens, ducks, and geese, and even smallwinged insects, may display chaotic flight patterns and emit unpleasant sounds, flying aimlessly and colliding with objects.
6. Monitoring Plant Behavior
In November 1974, a year before the Haicheng earthquake, peach blossoms bloomed. A year before the Tangshan earthquake, some flowering plants near Tangshan, such as pear trees, bloomed for a second time. These plant changes, along with detailed observations of other phenomena, can help predict the signs of an impending earthquake.
7. Observation of Ground Light Signals
A special type of light known as "ground light" occurs before an earthquake, indicating that a major tremor is imminent. In many cases, ground light and earthquakes occur almost simultaneously, although there are exceptions. For instance, the ground light appeared approximately six hours before the Tangshan earthquake.
8. Observation of Ground Sound Signals
Seismic sound signals are sounds emitted from deep within the earth before an earthquake. These can be heard in underground locations, such as certain caves or underground parking lots. However, due to the overwhelming noise in urban areas, these sounds are often overlooked and difficult to detect.
Therefore, by paying attention to the changes in your surroundings, you can detect anomalies. If you notice anything unusual, follow the advice of Dr. Oxygen: find a safe place to take shelter.
