Treatment Methods for Dog Bronchial Asthma

Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula:

10g of Scutellaria baicalensis, 30g of Lycium barbarum, 15g of Mulberry bark, 15g of Platycodon grandiflorus, 10g of Prepared Ephedra, 20g of Dioscorea opposita, 20g of Poria cocos, 15g of Cornus officinalis, 12g of Prunus persica, 10g of Citrus reticulata, and 10g of Glycyrrhiza uralensis. This mixture is to be decocted in water (for dogs weighing over 35kg).

Function: Clears heat, promotes lung function, resolves phlegm, and strengthens the spleen and kidneys.

Adjustments:

The onset of this condition often follows a certain pattern, typically triggered by other illnesses, changes in climate, environment, seasonal shifts, or exposure to allergens. If symptoms are worse during the day and improve at night, use the above formula. If symptoms are worse at night and improve during the day, omit Scutellaria baicalensis and Lycium barbarum, and add Herba Epimedii and Persica seed.

For dogs with constipation, add Cistanche deserticola and Persica seed. For those with severe asthma and frequent nighttime urination, omit Scutellaria baicalensis and add Bubalus bubalis horn and Herba Epimedii. For dogs with thick, yellow phlegm that is difficult to cough up, add Semen Lepidii and Bambusa textilis juice.

For dogs with thin, watery phlegm that is hard to expel, add Zingiber officinale and Pinellia ternata. For those coughing up bright red blood, add Rhizoma Polygoni multiflori, Folium Phyllanthi, and Herba Ecliptae. For dogs coughing up dark red blood in large amounts, add Radix notoginseng, Charcoal, and Collagen.

During treatment, it is important to avoid triggers and to enhance nutrition, engage in moderate exercise, and strengthen the body. Feed a prescribed veterinary diet to prevent recurrence.
