It's important to deworm kittens every 2 to 3 months.

How to Deworm a Kitten

Kittens can be dewormed using Praziquantel, a specialized deworming medication designed for young cats. Pet owners can administer the dewormer based on the kitten's age and weight. If a kitten has a high number of parasites, it's advisable to have extra Praziquantel on hand.

Important Considerations for Deworming Kittens

1. For kittens under 6 months of age, deworming should be done every 15 to 30 days, with a monthly deworming schedule recommended. After 6 months, kittens can be dewormed quarterly, ideally 5 to 7 days before vaccination.

2. Deworming medications can be刺激性, so it's not recommended to deworm kittens who are weak or have fragile gastrointestinal systems, especially before they are 2 to 3 months old. It's better to wait until they are 4 months old. Forcefeeding dewormers to underweight kittens can lead to symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea.

3. Regular deworming, both internal and external, is crucial. Delaying deworming until a kitten is sick can be too late, as the kitten may have been infested for a long time. If the kitten is pregnant, deworming should be avoided during pregnancy and can only be done two months after giving birth.

4. When performing external deworming, kittens should be bathed first, and the deworming medication should be applied to the back of the neck where the cat cannot reach. No baths should be given until the deworming medication has expired.

5. Internal deworming should be done 3 to 4 hours after the kitten has eaten. After administering the dewormer, the kitten should be fasting for 5 to 6 hours to enhance the effectiveness of the medication.

Warm Reminders

If a kitten's mother has a parasitic infection, the kittens can also be infected. To prevent this, pet owners should deworm their kittens and take precautions to avoid exposure to infected parasites. If you're unsure about deworming your cat, don't hesitate to consult with an online veterinarian for guidance.
