So, if the pet owner ignores parasites, it could lead to health issues like gastrointestinal and skin problems, and in severe cases, even death. Moreover, some parasites are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted between humans and animals. For the health of both the owner and the dog, regular deworming is essential.

Deworming primarily involves two types: external and internal deworming.

As the name suggests, external deworming focuses on eliminating parasites that live on the outside of the body, such as ticks, fleas, lice, and mites.

On the other hand, internal deworming targets parasites within the body, such as intestinal parasites like roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms, as well as blood parasites like heartworms.

Despite the fact that many pet owners deeply care for their dogs and understand the importance of deworming, some unscrupulous merchants are willing to go to any length to make a profit.

Firstly, there's the trendy and seemingly effective deworming collar. However, most of these collars contain pyrethroids, essentially insecticides! For dogs with a keen sense of smell, the odor is overpowering and can damage their sense of smell. Wearing it for extended periods can also lead to allergies, hair loss, and even skin issues. Plus, these collars cannot provide fullbody protection against parasites, leaving areas like the tail and hind legs vulnerable.

Secondly, there's the "Happy Brown Sugar," which some pet owners and even merchants hype up as a miracle deworming solution. People might believe sugar can deworm due to the sugar pills they took as children for the polio vaccine. But those were vaccines, not deworming medication. The "Happy Brown Sugar" is not listed in the Chinese Veterinary Drug Database, making it a genuine counterfeit veterinary drug. Therefore, it's not as "happy" as it claims to be.

Lastly, there's the outdated deworming method: deworming injections. With the availability of oral and topical deworming medications, the side effects and stressinducing nature of injections have made this method obsolete.

According to the American Association of Companion Animal Practitioners (CAPC), the best deworming method for dogs is a combination of external and internal deworming.

Firstly, external deworming is typically done using a dropper. Simply part the dog's fur at the base of the tail and apply the medication directly to the skin. The liquid will quickly spread throughout the body via the sebaceous glands, providing effective protection against parasites.

Secondly, internal deworming is usually done through oral medications. This ensures that the dog's internal parasites are effectively treated.
