The Causes of Dragon Fish's Blindness Syndrome

The primary cause of blindness syndrome in dragon fish is poor water quality. Once the water quality deteriorates, dragon fish are highly susceptible to illness, and eye clouding is often a direct result of such poor conditions. However, the reasons for dragon fish's eye clouding are not solely attributed to water quality issues. Other factors, such as significant changes in water quality or the fish's inability to adapt to new water, can also lead to this condition. Moreover, if dragon fish's eyes are infected with bacteria, it can easily trigger the onset of the blindness syndrome. If the blindness is caused by ichthyophthirius, also known as white spot disease, it is crucial to focus on treating the white spot disease. Only by completely resolving the white spot disease can the eye clouding symptoms gradually diminish, although the treatment for this condition is relatively straightforward.

Treating dragon fish's blindness syndrome is key to early detection and prompt treatment. If the eye clouding is caught in its early stages, it is relatively easy to resolve, often requiring only a timely water change. However, in the later stages of eye clouding, medication is necessary. When the symptoms are severe, the "old three methods" can be employed for treatment, which include water changes, salt application, and temperature increase. Water changes involve replacing onethird of the tank's water daily; salt application means adding a small amount of salt to the water after each change, following the standard of 3g of salt per liter of water; and temperature increase involves raising the water temperature to 32°C. Generally, after a period of treatment using these methods, the symptoms of eye clouding will gradually subside, and the dragon fish will recover slowly.

Although dragon fish's blindness syndrome is not a severe disease and is relatively easy to treat, if left untreated, it can lead to blindness or even death in the fish. Latestage treatment is timeconsuming and requires medication. Treatment for latestage eye clouding often involves the use of antibiotics like penicillin or specialized medications for dragon fish eye diseases.

With this introduction from Oxygen Pet Doctor, pet owners should not worry excessively upon encountering their dragon fish's eye clouding. With proper and timely treatment, it is possible to effectively cure the dragon fish.
