Section 1: The Difference Between Puppy and Adult Dog Food

There are significant differences in the composition of puppy food and adult dog food. Puppy food is specifically formulated to cater to the growth and development needs of young dogs, offering a higher nutritional value. It contains a higher proportion of fats, calories, and calcium compared to adult dog food. This is to ensure that puppies receive adequate nutrition during their rapid growth phase, supporting their healthy development.

Adult dog food tends to have a higher fiber content and larger kibble, with more moisture. Feeding a puppy adult dog food could lead to nutritional deficiencies and digestive issues, while an adult dog consuming puppy food longterm might experience overnutrition, potentially leading to obesity. Therefore, it's crucial to feed dogs appropriate food for their age.

Section 2: What to Feed Dogs at Different Ages?

02 Months: Puppies at this age should primarily be fed breast milk. If necessary, they can be supplemented with specially formulated puppy goat's milk powder.

23 Months: They can start on softened puppy kibble soaked in warm water and continue with goat's milk powder. Begin introducing kibble gradually, starting with a few pieces.

4 Months: Puppies can transition to dry puppy food and can be given additional foods like egg yolks, chicken breast, and nutritional supplements.

5 Months to 1 Year: Continue with dry puppy food as the main diet. If a puppy experiences teething pain or a decrease in appetite, wet food can be offered temporarily.

1 Year to 8 Years: Adult dogs should be fed adult dog food along with supplementary foods. Golden Retrievers, for instance, are prone to skin issues, so it's advisable to choose dog food rich in nutrients for coat and skin health, including vitamins B and lecithin.

8 Years and Older: Senior dogs should be fed senior dog food, which is designed to combat aging and is easier on their teeth due to its softer texture.

Important Notes:

When transitioning your dog to a new food, it's important to do so gradually. The 7Day Transition Method can help prevent gastrointestinal upset and poor digestion. This method doesn't necessarily have to be strictly 7 days; the key is to slowly introduce the new food while reducing the amount of the old food. Monitor your dog's appetite and bowel movements. If everything is normal, you can gradually replace the old food with the new. If any issues arise, increase the proportion of the old food and wait until your dog recovers before reintroducing the new food.
