Part One: Reasons for a Cat's Tears

1. A small amount of tears may be a normal occurrence, often triggered by dust or debris.

2. Inflammation in the cat's eyes can lead to excessive tearing, along with redness around the eyes and unusual discharge. This could also be due to the cat consuming too much salty human food, or being sensitive to certain flavors or odors.

3. A lack of water intake and an overindulgence in spicy or heating foods might cause a cat to experience a "fire" condition, leading to tears.

4. Eating indigestible foods can disrupt a cat's endocrine balance, potentially causing tears.

5. A cat that's caught a cold may also have watery eyes, along with symptoms like coughing, sneezing, and a runny nose, as well as a loss of appetite.

6. Eye diseases such as conjunctivitis or corneal issues can also result in a cat's tears.

Part Two: Treatment Methods

For tears caused by dust, a soft cotton ball dipped in physiological saline (or warm water if saline is unavailable) can be used to gently clean the cat's eyes. This should be done 23 times a day.

Long eyelashes can also be a culprit, so it's wise for pet owners to inspect their cat's lashes and consult a veterinarian for correction if necessary.

In cases of eye inflammation, antibiotics like erythromycin eye drops or ointment can be administered, and the area around the eyes should be cleaned with saline or warm water.

If allergies are the cause, antiallergy medication might be prescribed.

For cats suffering from eye diseases, it's crucial for owners to take them to a vet for prompt examination and treatment.

Bacterial infections in the eyes can also lead to tears, along with symptoms like eye boogers and redness. Chloramphenicol eye drops or other antibacterial eye drops can be used in such cases.

For cats with only watery eyes, antiallergy eye drops like Naphazoline can be applied. These are readily available at pharmacies and can be kept at home for emergencies.

If you notice any of these signs in your feline friend, it's important to treat them accordingly. However, if there's no improvement after 3 days of treatment, it's advisable to seek veterinary care promptly.
