What is a vaccine?

When should dogs be vaccinated?
The first vaccination is typically administered when a dog is around 6 weeks old, with the second dose given 2 to 4 weeks after the first. These vaccines are required annually to reinforce immunity.
When can puppies start interacting with other pets?
Puppies should be introduced to other pets after they have been vaccinated. This socialization is crucial for their healthy development. Remember to take your new puppy to get vaccinated as soon as it comes home.
What diseases can vaccines prevent?
Canine Distemper (Hard Pad): This severe, highly contagious, and multisystemic viral disease affects dogs and other carnivores. It's particularly deadly for puppies, with early symptoms including puslike discharge from the eyes and nose, respiratory and digestive system abnormalities, and eventually, neurological damage. Some cases may also present with overkeratinization of the nose and footpads, known as hard pad.
Canine Parvovirus: A highly virulent infectious disease primarily affecting the dog's gastrointestinal tract and immune system. Symptoms include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss.
Infectious Canine Hepatitis: An acute septicemic disease in canines caused by canine adenovirus type 1.
Kennel Cough: A common disease spread through the air or by contact, primarily through respiratory droplets and secretions. It's similar to other flu viruses.
Leptospirosis: A bacterium capable of infecting various mammals, making it one of the zoonotic pathogens. Different serotypes of Leptospira can cause damage to various organs.
