One: Foreign Object Obstruction

Should a Golden Retriever inadvertently inhale foreign objects like feathers or fur while playing, it may exhibit symptoms such as runny nose. This is due to the irritation and obstruction caused by the foreign body in the dog's nasal passages, leading to itching and congestion. In such cases, our priority is to remove the foreign object from the dog's nose. You can take your Golden Retriever to a veterinary clinic for the removal of the nasal obstruction. Generally, once the foreign object is removed, the dog should recover naturally.

Two: Common Cold

Most cases of canine colds are caused by exposure to cold, so sudden changes in weather can easily lead to a cold in dogs, particularly during the transition periods of winter and spring. Dogs with weakened immunity are often unable to avoid a cold during these seasons. Therefore, it's essential to ensure your dog stays warm during these times, such as adding a blanket to the dog's bed or providing a hot water bottle.

In addition, you can administer supplements to boost your dog's immunity, such as Antitrypsin IGY or multivitamin tablets, which are effective in enhancing a Golden Retriever's immunity. If your dog's cold becomes severe, you may consider giving it cold medication, such as Canine and Feline Respiratory Infection Special Ganyouning, which is a great choice for treating canine colds.

Three: Pneumonia

If a Golden Retriever's cold persists without proper treatment, it can easily develop into pneumonia, which poses significant risks to the dog and can lead to longterm complications. If your dog, in addition to having a runny nose, shows signs of difficulty breathing, especially after exercise, it may have pneumonia. In such cases, you can opt for injectable antibiotics such as cephalosporins, penicillin, or erythromycin for antibacterial and antiinflammatory treatment. You can also consider diluting erythromycin lactobionate 50100 units and administering it intravenously. Given that pneumonia is a serious condition, I still recommend using injectable medications for dogs suffering from pneumonia.

If your Golden Retriever is experiencing a runny nose, you can refer to the above treatment methods. If you're unsure about the cause of the runny nose, it's best to take your dog to a veterinary clinic for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
