The cat fleas are small, wingless, and have a dark brown color. They possess a piercingsucking mouthpart and long, welldeveloped hind legs, which enable them to jump effectively. These parasites feed on their host's blood. Notably, they can also infest dogs and are capable of transmitting the plague. Additionally, they serve as intermediate hosts for tapeworms in cats.
Symptoms of Cat Fleas
Cats suffering from cat fleas may experience moderate itching, along with symptoms such as papules, serous crusts, hair loss, and thickened skin. Flea larvae are often found in the fur between the ears, shoulders, rump, and hind legs, as well as in the perineal area.
Prevention and Treatment of Cat Fleas
Enhancing animal husbandry, maintaining cleanliness, and regular disinfection are crucial in preventing fleas. Pay special attention to keeping the cat's fur clean and sanitized, including regular bathing and grooming.
Treatment options include applying medications like螨净 (Tromethamine) and Ivermectin, either topically or through bathing. These treatments should be repeated approximately every three weeks. Additionally, flea collars specifically designed for cats can be used.
Most insecticides have some degree of efficacy against fleas and lice. The primary methods of application are spraying, washing the fur, and medicated baths. Apart from referring to treatment drugs for mange, you can also consider the following methods for flea control:
(1) Grind 50g of dried tobacco leaves and soak them in 200ml of vinegar for a week. Then, apply the juice to the cat's entire body.
(2) Take a sufficient amount of fresh peach leaves, slightly crush them, and place them in an earthenware pot. Place the cat inside the pot, leaving only its head outside. The fleas will fall off after detecting the scent of peach leaves.
