Section 1: Mild Sneezing Symptoms in Cats

When cats experience a mild sneeze, it often stems from persistent irritation in their nasal passages. This can be caused by various environmental factors such as fragrances, dust, and pollen. Generally, if the irritant is removed, the cat's sneezing should subside without any serious issues. In cases where there is a blockage, you can use a nasal cleaning solution to gently remove any foreign objects from your cat's nostrils.

Section 2: Severe Sneezing Symptoms in Cats

Severe sneezing in cats can be attributed to a couple of different causes:

Firstly, it could be due to a common cold, which is usually not a cause for alarm. Simply ensure your cat stays warm and wellhydrated.

Secondly, the cat may be infected with respiratory viruses like feline rhinotracheitis or feline herpesvirus. These viruses can lead to relentless sneezing, and treatment often requires veterinary support and medication.

Thirdly, bacterial infections such as mycoplasma, chlamydia, or Bordetella can affect a cat's upper respiratory system, causing sneezing. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. When symptoms are severe, cats may sneeze continuously, have nasal blockages that prevent breathing through the nose, and may only breathe through their mouths. Their eyes may swell, and they could suffer from conjunctivitis or keratitis, making it difficult to open their eyes. Excessive drooling might indicate stomatitis or glossitis, and in severe cases, cats can develop a fever as high as 40°C. A decrease in appetite may occur due to a blocked nose that prevents them from detecting the smell of food, leading to a loss of appetite.
