Not all foods that sound healthy are safe for cats; some are merely wolves in sheep's clothing, posing a danger to our feline friends.

What Foods Are Harmful to Cats?

① Chocolate

Chocolate is a deadly trap for cats, containing two lethal components: theobromine and caffeine. Theobromine is toxic to most animals, and even a small amount can be enough to poison them. Cats are particularly sensitive to caffeine, much more so than humans. While many of us enjoy chocolate, even a tiny dose can be harmful to cats.

Any product related to chocolate, such as cocoa powder, white chocolate, and chocolate cakes, should be kept out of reach of curious kittens.

Thankfully, most cats are not interested in chocolate and will steer clear of it. However, for safety's sake, it's still best to store chocolate where cats can't get to it.

② Risen Dough

Cats are notorious for their greedy nature, but they should never be allowed to sample risen dough. A warm, moist stomach is the perfect environment for yeast to ferment, leading to a host of health issues for cats. Eating yeast dough can cause abdominal pain, bowel rupture, and other serious risks.

So, if you have any risen dough at home, be sure to keep it out of reach of your feline companions!

③ Grapes

Both grapes and raisins can lead to acute renal failure in cats. I shudder to think back to the time I almost gave grapes to my cat, only to realize the potential danger. Thankfully, my cat didn't eat them, but it was a close call. Never give your cat grapes, even if they seem curious, and always do your research first.

④ Garlic, Onions, and Other Spices

Almost all spices can cause discomfort if ingested by cats, but garlic and onions are particularly dangerous. Due to the presence of thiosulphate, these ingredients can lead to Heinz body anemia in cats. It can take just a few hours for the red blood cells to be destroyed, causing shock and potentially death.

⑤ Alcoholic Beverages

Alcohol is a stimulant for humans, but it's a poison for cats, and in severe cases, it can lead to poisoning and even death.

⑥ Milk

Cats are lactose intolerant, which can lead to vomiting and diarrhea.

⑦ Almonds, Macadamia Nuts, and Pine Nuts

Almonds: Can cause dizziness, vomiting, and even asphyxiation. Macadamia nuts: Can lead to vomiting, paralysis of the hind legs, and muscle pain. Pine nuts: Can cause liver toxicity and potentially lead to death.

Here are a few principles to keep in mind when feeding your cat:

1. Avoid all cold and刺激性 foods; cats have sensitive and fragile stomachs, so even the healthiest of them should be cautious.

2. Never feed your cat raw foods, as they can contain parasites that lead to infections.

3. Limit highfat, highsugar, highsalt, and highoil foods; these can burden your cat's body and negatively impact their organs.

4. Fruits, nuts, starchy foods, and desserts are not necessary for cats; they are true carnivores and have a natural inclination to eat meat. Starches are difficult for them to digest, so it's unnecessary to go against their biological instincts.

Whether it's humans or cats, health issues can arise from the accumulation of risks in our daily lives. Highfat, highsugar, highsalt, and highoil foods can be a significant burden on a cat's body, and while the harm may not be immediately apparent, it can certainly affect their lifespan over time. Of course, just like some people may choose to smoke despite knowing the health risks, some cat owners may prioritize their cat's shortterm enjoyment over their longterm health. It's a personal choice, but one that should be made with careful consideration.
