Canine heart conditions are quite diverse, encompassing conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, and mitral valve insufficiency, among others. The nature and progression of each disease can vary widely, which means there isn't a onesizefitsall "best" medication for every heartdiseased dog.

Common Symptoms of Poor Canine Heart Health:

▷ Early Stage: Symptoms may be subtle, often presenting as occasional shortness of breath after exercise or rest, along with a possible decrease in appetite.

▷ Middle Stage: Your dog's energy levels begin to decline, with reduced endurance for exercise. You might notice frequent panting, coughing, and openmouth breathing, and even signs of cyanosis (bluish discoloration of the gums and tongue).

▷ Late Stage: Look out for signs like abdominal swelling, lethargy, decreased appetite, and persistent abdominal breathing. Dogs may also wheeze and cough continuously, and may faint or have seizures after excitement or vigorous activity.

Medications for Canine Heart Conditions:

Cardicor (Pimobendan Chews): This nonglycoside positive inotrope strengthens myocardial contraction and dilates blood vessels, helping to delay the progression of heart failure. Pimobendan is typically used for more severe cases, especially in dogs with heart disease in the C stage or beyond, as it is not easily discontinued once started.

Furosemide: A diuretic that helps expel excess fluid from the body, reducing the workload on the heart. It can significantly improve symptoms in dogs with severe coughing, wheezing, and an enlarged abdomen, which may be due to fluid retention.

Cardicor (Enalapril Maleate Tablets): An angiotensinconverting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used as an adjunct to diuretics in treating mild to moderate to severe congestive heart failure caused by large mitral valve regurgitation or dilated cardiomyopathy.

Coenzyme Q10: A nutritional supplement that supports the heart's nutritional needs and aids in improving heart function, although it does not have direct therapeutic effects.

Lung Heart康: Primarily used to dilate bronchial tubes and relieve asthma symptoms, but it has significant side effects, such as nausea and decreased appetite, and is not recommended for longterm use.

Please note that all the medications mentioned above should only be administered under the guidance of a veterinarian. Your vet will consider your dog's overall health, age, weight, and specific type of heart disease when prescribing medication.

In addition to medication, it's crucial to pay attention to your dog's daily diet and lifestyle management to achieve the best outcomes.

● Diet: Provide a light, lowsodium, lowfat diet to reduce the heart's workload.

● Exercise: Ensure your dog gets regular, gentle walks, but avoid strenuous activities and longdistance running.

● Environment: Keep your dog in a quiet, comfortable space, avoiding sudden scares or loud noises.

● Stress: Minimize stress and maintain emotional stability to support your dog's wellbeing.

Lastly, remember never to give your pet any human medication without veterinary advice, as this can lead to severe side effects or poisoning. If you suspect your beloved pet has heart issues, consult a professional veterinarian immediately for accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans.
