Common Areas Where Fleas Might Be Found on Dogs

1. Inside the Ears

Fleas often lurk in dense grass and shrubbery, waiting for a dog to pass by, at which point they can latch onto the pet. Ear bites in dogs are not uncommon. Since fleas are very small at first, they can be hard to detect when they attach to a dog. Dogs have many crevices and hidden spots, but their ears are a prime haven for these pests. It's crucial to inspect your dog's ears during checks, as fleas are likely to be hiding there. If your dog frequently scratches its ears, there's likely a reason, and fleas are a strong possibility.

2. Between the Paws

Fleas prefer to hide in places that are not easily seen, such as between a dog's toes. It's not uncommon for fleas to attach themselves there. Owners should regularly inspect their dog's paws to help find and eliminate these unwanted guests. Fleas can often be found between a dog's toes, even on the pads of their feet. If you notice your dog licking or chewing at its feet, it could be a sign of fleas or an injury, and it's time to take your pet to the vet.

3. Under the Tail

The area under a dog's tail is dark and warm, a perfect environment for fleas. Since most pet owners don't frequently check the bottom of their dog's tail, especially around the base, fleas can go unnoticed for a considerable amount of time. If your dog has thick fur, regular grooming and thorough searches are essential. Early detection of fleas can lead to early treatment.

4. Around the Genitals

Many dog owners are uncomfortable checking their dog's genital area. However, this region is a dark and moist spot on a dog's body, making it another favorite spot for fleas.

5. Around the Eyelids

Many fleas are mistakenly identified as skin moles and overlooked around the eyelids. Unfortunately, by the time many pet owners realize their dog has fleas around its eyelids, the fleas have been there for a while. The longer fleas are present, the greater the risk of infection. Therefore, when fleas are found on a dog, it's essential for owners to remove them promptly.
