Common causes of pain in dogs often include the following:

Firstly, accidental injuries. While out and about, dogs might get into fights with other animals, sustain bites on their legs, be struck by humans, or step on sharp pieces of glass. These incidents can lead to pain and discomfort.

Secondly, overgrown nails. If a dog is walking abnormally or in pain, it could be due to overly long nails. Pet owners should regularly check their dog's nails and trim them as necessary. Additionally, if a foreign object is stuck in the paw, removing it promptly can alleviate pain and restore normalcy.

Thirdly, arthritis. During damp weather, especially on rainy days, dogs may walk abnormally, limping frequently or hesitating to put weight on their legs. If they resist when you touch their legs and frequently lick them, especially if they are often climbing stairs, arthritis might be the culprit.

Fourthly, infections or other inflammations. If a limp does not occur after intense exercise, it's important to consider other causes, such as infections resulting from injuries. For example, when the skin is broken and bacteria侵入, it can lead to abscesses, or joint infections. It's not uncommon for dogs that venture outdoors to be bitten by stray dogs or wild animals, leading to abscess formation.

These nonopen soft tissue injuries without skin breaks, which are more common in the腰部 and limbs, are collectively known as contusions. Therefore, if a dog is painful upon touch without any obvious external injury, it's crucial to carefully inspect their legs and feet for swelling, abscesses, foreign objects in the paw, and overgrown nails. Identifying the affected area is essential for proper treatment.

1. Local treatment: Gently massage the affected area, apply a small amount of honghua oil, and use Yunnan Baiyao spray.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine: Treat with the principles of relaxing tendons, promoting blood circulation, reducing swelling, and alleviating pain. You can use prepared Chinese medicine such as "Da Huoluo Wan" or "Die Dain Wan," taking 1/3 of a pill twice daily for three days. External application of huanglian and zizhi can help reduce swelling.

3. Analgesic and antibiotic: Administer 2ml of Antongding intramuscularly and 4,000 international units of gentamicin per kilogram of body weight, once a day for three days.

4. Arthritis medication: Use medications that protect bones and alleviate arthritis symptoms. You can give sodium salicylate tablets of 1g, oral prednisone of 24mg, and traditional Chinese medicine "Zhuifeng Tougutang Wan" at 6g per dose, twice daily for six days.
