Dog Ringworm: Clinically, this condition is characterized by distinct, circular or annular alopecia patches on the skin, accompanied by itching and scabs.
Key Symptoms: After infection, the affected dog experiences hair loss and the development of circular or annular bald spots, which are covered with gray scales. Within these scales, remnants of damaged hair roots may be found, or the area may be completely bald. The lesions around the bald spots are pronounced, often showing small blisters or pustules. In severe cases, the skin becomes itchy, leading to extensive hair loss over a large area. Multiple lesions may merge, ultimately forming crusts.
Prevention and Treatment:
It is crucial to isolate and treat the affected dog promptly to prevent crossinfection. Maintain a clean environment, regularly disinfect the kennel, and ensure the area remains dry.
Treatment should combine both internal and external methods. Internally, administer Griseofulvin tablets at a dose of 20 to 40 mg per kilogram of body weight, taken twice daily. For Ketoconazole, the dose is 10 mg per kilogram of body weight, taken twice daily, for a duration of at least four weeks.
Topically, apply Clotrimazole cream, Miconazole cream, or Antifungal Ointment as needed. Apply these ointments one to two times daily until the condition is cured. Before application, clean the affected area with warm water.
An alternative home remedy involves soaking Shechuangzi (Cnidium monnieri) and Baibu (Stemona sessilifolia) in 50% alcohol for 2 to 3 days, then filtering the liquid and applying it topically twice daily.
