Cat Vaccination: When and Why It's Necessary
One: The Importance of Vaccinating Cats
Newborn kittens are fortunate to receive passive immunity from their mother's milk, which protects them from diseases. However, this immunity fades as the kittens wean. To ensure our feline friends remain safe from viral infections, we initiate vaccination at around 8 weeks of age, which helps bolster their immune systems. The most common vaccines target highly contagious and dangerous diseases such as feline distemper, rhinotracheitis, and calicivirus. These are known as core vaccines, which are essential and must be administered.
Two: When to Vaccinate Your Cat
According to expert recommendations, a threeshot combination vaccine, often referred to as the "triple vaccine," is designed to prevent a range of lifethreatening and highly prevalent diseases. It is advisable to administer this vaccine to kittens once they are two months old, followed by core vaccinations at four months, and finally, the rabies vaccine. From that point on, these vaccinations should be administered annually.
Three: The Cost of Vaccinating Your Cat
On average, you can purchase a cat vaccine for approximately 6080 yuan per dose, totaling around 300 yuan for the initial vaccination series. If your kitten is still too young, it is best not to vaccinate them. For adult cats, it is recommended to receive the full triple vaccine and the rabies vaccine. Thereafter, a rabies vaccine should be administered annually, and the need for the rabies vaccine will no longer be necessary.
