When disciplining your dog, there are five things you should never do, as they can lead to your dog developing a negative attitude towards you.

1. Avoid Locking Up Your Dog

When your dog misbehaves or does something wrong, you can shout at it loudly or gently tap its head with a newspaper as a mild punishment. However, it is never appropriate to confine your dog to a small, dark room or a cage. This approach is not only incorrect but can also lead to your dog becoming depressed over time, making it even more disobedient.

2. Never Use Violence

Discipline should never involve violence. Prolonged use of violence can instill fear in your dog, leading to a distorted psychology in severe cases. This is especially true for puppies, whose delicate bodies can easily sustain bone fractures from a swift kick or punch.

3. Maintain a Firm Attitude

When your dog commits a mistake, it's crucial to be serious and stern. If you're too gentle, your dog may perceive it as playtime rather than discipline, and it won't realize what it did wrong.

4. Don't Make Your Dog Stand in Punishment

While making your dog stand in punishment may make it aware of its misdeed, it can also harm its lumbar spine if done for extended periods. Dogs are not children; this method should be avoided.

5. Don't Delay Punishment for Too Long

Discipline should be immediate. If you wait too long to punish your dog after the misdeed, it won't understand why it's being punished, as its memory of the incident may have faded.
